WMTS: Raising the curtain
Wrexham Musical Theatre Society (WMTS) is celebrating its 80th year with a new Board of Trustees and a new vision for the future. Formerly the Wrexham Operatic Society, WMTS was previously based at premises on Rivulet Road and, from 1979 to 2016, put on a variety of adult and youth productions and social events.
They’re now using a variety of community venues, such as Wrexham Enterprise Hub and The Venture, to meet and are taking tentative steps to organising opportunities for the people of Wrecsam to perform.
Their first venture - a ‘Mixer’ event - was held at TÅ· Pawb, on Saturday 18th June from 7:30pm, where members and non-members alike were invited to meet the new Board of Trustees, find out what they have been doing since their AGM in April and find out how people can get involved in The Society’s future. The event, free to attend, had an open mic and keyboard for people to sing, recite, play, speak or beat – a bar will also be available for people to buy drinks.
Current Chair, Siôn Edwards, said “Rejuvenating The Society and providing more opportunities for people in Wrecsam to engage with the arts has been our ultimate aim and, in just two months, we’ve made great progress to bring WMTS back to life and up-to-date for a 2022 audience. Community is at the heart of our ethos and will be central to The Society’s future so we hope as many people from the town will join us on this journey”.
